One of the most rewarding aspects of my research in CyberPsychology is the opportunity to engage with cybersecurity professionals from around the world. Recently, I had the pleasure of discussing my work with a brilliant group from Finland at Kyberasema, a key cybersecurity event fostering collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and innovation in the field.

Experience was posted to LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7232424850961686528/

Bridging Cybersecurity and Psychology

At Kyberasema, our conversation revolved around the intersection of cybersecurity and psychology—particularly how personality traits, cognitive biases, and behavioral influences shape security decision-making. As cybersecurity threats evolve, understanding the human element becomes just as crucial as technical defenses.

We explored key aspects of my research, including:

  • Why cybersecurity professionals sometimes overlook best practices – The cognitive and situational factors that lead even highly skilled experts to take security risks.
  • The role of personality in cybersecurity effectiveness – How traits like conscientiousness, openness, and risk tolerance influence security behaviors.
  • Mental health in the cybersecurity industry – Strategies to mitigate burnout and support the well-being of cyber professionals.
  • The Security Acceptance Model – A framework for understanding how security policies are adopted (or rejected) within organizations.

Finland’s Unique Cybersecurity Perspective

One of the highlights of this discussion was gaining insight into Finland’s cybersecurity culture. With its strong emphasis on digital resilience, education, and public-private collaboration, Finland offers valuable lessons on how to build a security-conscious society. The Finnish group shared their experiences in fostering cybersecurity awareness and integrating human factors into security strategies—an approach that aligns closely with the goals of my research.

The Power of Global Collaboration

Engaging in these international discussions reinforces how vital CyberPsychology is in shaping the future of cybersecurity. While technology continues to advance, the human element remains both a critical strength and a potential vulnerability. By combining psychological insights with technical expertise, we can build more effective, user-centric security frameworks.

I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to connect with such knowledgeable and passionate professionals at Kyberasema. These conversations not only enhance my research but also contribute to the broader cybersecurity community’s understanding of human behavior in digital spaces.

Looking forward to continuing these discussions and fostering more international collaborations! If you’re interested in learning more about my research, feel free to connect or check out my ongoing studies.
