Reflecting on CYPSY27: A Transformative Experience at the Cyberpsychology Conference

Attending CYPSY27, the premier academic conference on CyberPsychology, was an incredibly enriching experience. As a PhD researcher in this field, I often find myself deep in independent study and analysis, which can sometimes feel isolating. This conference provided a much-needed opportunity to connect with like-minded researchers, exchange ideas, and engage in thought-provoking discussions about the psychological aspects of human interaction with technology.

Presenting My Research on the Psychology of Cyber Defenders

One of the highlights of CYPSY27 was the opportunity to present my ongoing study on the psychology of cyber defenders. My research explores:

  • The personality traits that shape cybersecurity professionals’ behaviors and decision-making.
  • How cyber defenders perceive cybersecurity program failures within organizations.
  • The impact of cyber experience on security practices and risk assessment.

Sharing my findings with fellow academics sparked engaging discussions about how human factors influence cybersecurity effectiveness. I received insightful feedback that will help refine my study and contribute to a growing body of research on the psychology of cybersecurity professionals.

The Power of Academic Collaboration

Beyond presenting my work, the real magic of CYPSY27 was in the conversations—whether during formal sessions or casual meet-ups. I had the pleasure of syncing up with Erick Miyares, whose work intersects with my own interests, leading to exciting discussions on potential research collaborations.

Being surrounded by brilliant researchers who are equally passionate about CyberPsychology was truly inspiring. From studies on online behavior and digital identity to discussions on cybersecurity culture and cognitive biases, CYPSY27 reinforced the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in understanding the human side of cybersecurity.

Looking Ahead

Attending CYPSY27 has not only energized my research but has also expanded my network of scholars who are pushing the boundaries of CyberPsychology. The conference reaffirmed that, while PhD research can sometimes feel isolating, I am part of a global academic community dedicated to exploring the complex relationship between humans and technology.

I’m looking forward to incorporating the insights I gained into my work and continuing these conversations beyond the conference. Thank you to everyone who made CYPSY27 such a valuable experience!
